McKinnon School of Highland Dance

Mckinnon school of highland dance

The McKinnon School of Highland Dance is a well known dance school in Edmonton's south east (Mill Woods) and is run by Rebecca McKinnon. The School offers classes in highland dance at all levels, from primary to premier, for both the recreational and competitive dancer.

The focus of the dance school is to teach children, youth and young adults the pleasure of highland dancing within a comfortable atmosphere of instruction, support, and sportsmanship.

If students are interested in competing, there are many competitions throughout the year held in Edmonton as well as other cities in Alberta  (e.g. Calgary, Red Deer, Lethbridge).  In June of each year, the McKinnon School of Highland Dance organizes the Edmonton Scottish Society Highland Games. Dance students at the McKinnon School of Highland Dance also perform for community organizations such as long term care facilities and for Robbie Burns events. Dancers have the opportunity to sign up for medal tests each year which are examinations done both in November and February of each year.
